Choose photo review or physical examination first

For Canadian buyers and owners, photo review offers convenience, while physical examination allows weight, construction and hard-to-photograph details to be assessed; Becca’s Bags and Love that Bag etc are two Canada-available options with different published terms.[1][3][4][5]

Photo authentication examines submitted images. Its usefulness depends on clear, current photographs and the seller honestly showing the item offered.[3] A submission may require:

  • overall views of the front, back, base and interior;
  • close-ups of stitching, engraved hardware and leather grain; and
  • requested blind stamps or date codes.[5]

Do not alter images, force pockets open or damage linings to expose an identifier.[5] Entrupy is not a conventional emailed-photo service: a verified business captures the required images through Entrupy’s app.[5]

Physical authentication gives the examiner access to the bag’s stitching, logos, hardware, leather and other construction details.[3] Rome Station’s vendor-authored guide describes physical review as usually more reliable and photo review as faster and more convenient when shipping is impractical, but it provides no independent comparative accuracy percentage.[3] Either method may still produce an inconclusive result.[5]

Compare Canada-available services on three factors

Compare each provider by submission method, coverage and result documentation.

Becca’s Bags

Submission method: This Canada-only service uses a physical Entrupy scan. The handbag must be mailed or dropped off by appointment in Vancouver, and the customer cannot remain with it during scanning.[1]

Supported handbags: Becca’s accepts handbags from Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, Burberry, Celine, Chanel, Chloé, Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, Givenchy, Goyard, Gucci, Hermès, Loewe, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Saint Laurent and Valentino.[1]

Result documentation: One part of the page describes a certificate of authenticity or an evidence letter explaining why the bag cannot be certified. Elsewhere, it says a detailed report for an inauthentic or “unidentifiable” result costs another $50. Confirm what each fee includes before ordering.[1]

Love that Bag etc

Submission method: The service is available to Canadian customers, with appointment-only showroom visits in Montreal. The cited page does not state whether owner submissions are examined physically, assessed from photographs or handled both ways.[4]

Supported handbags: The cited page does not list accepted brands or models, so confirm whether the exact brand, model, material and production era are covered.[4][5]

Result documentation: Love that Bag etc says it provides a certificate of authenticity or an evidence letter explaining why an item could not be authenticated.[4]

Compare fees, timing, cancellations and shipping risk

Becca’s charges $150 for each supported designer except Hermès, which costs $400. Its page does not identify the currency.[1]

  • Timing: Instructions are emailed within 72 business hours after purchase. Becca’s describes authentication as taking within 48 hours after receipt, excluding weekends and holidays, but its FAQ says the bag remains there for up to 24 hours for scanning. The page does not explain how those periods relate.[1]
  • Cancellation: The service is generally non-refundable unless Becca’s cancels before shipment or drop-off. It may refund or cancel orders involving the wrong or an unsupported designer, a non-handbag item or an item that does not match the order. Becca’s also reserves discretion to cancel service orders.[1]
  • Shipping: The owner pays shipping and must use tracking. Insurance is optional and purchased at the owner’s risk. Becca’s disclaims liability until receipt and assigns transit loss, theft or damage to the owner.[1]
  • Pickup deadline: Items not picked up within 7 days of authentication are deemed unclaimed and will be donated.[1]

Love that Bag etc states a turnaround of two to three business days.[4]

Verify that an Entrupy certificate matches the bag

Entrupy’s certificate guidance describes checks that go beyond confirming that an ID produces a database record.[2]

  1. Find the certificate ID. Enter it through Entrupy’s “check certificate” search.[2]
  2. Compare the paper and database versions. Check the brand, material, authentication date and Verified Business. Entrupy says differing paper and digital details indicate a fake certificate.[2]
  3. Compare the record with the bag. Confirm that the actual handbag matches the brand and material in the record.[2]

For a digital certificate, follow its link to the database and make the same bag-to-record comparison. An Entrupy Verified Business may also reauthenticate the handbag and issue a new certificate under that business’s name.[2]

A valid record does not authenticate a different bag merely because the same paperwork accompanies it.[2] Nor should a main-bag opinion be assumed to confirm condition, the accuracy of a sale listing or the originality and completeness of accessories.[5]

A serial number is only one piece of evidence: its format, location and claimed production date must be assessed in the proper brand-and-era context, and a readable code does not establish that the leather or hardware is original.[5]

Handle an inconclusive result without losing a deadline

Distinguish among authentic, inauthentic and inconclusive results. Inconclusive means the service could not form a complete judgment from the available information; it means neither authentic nor fake.[1][5] Preserve the provider’s exact term, such as inconclusive, unidentified or unidentifiable, because policies may treat the outcomes differently.[1][5]

Possible reasons include blurred or missing photographs, glare, severe wear, replaced linings, repainted leather, customization, mixed or replaced components, an unsupported model or unresolved expert disagreement.[5]

Luxury Evermore warns against assuming that authentication will pause a seller, marketplace, return, chargeback or other dispute deadline.[5] Keep:

  • the listing URL, order number and receipt;
  • the report’s exact wording, scope, reference and date;
  • the original photographs and earlier reports;
  • repair or alteration history;
  • the seller’s terms, deadlines and required notice method; and
  • case and seller correspondence.[5]

Refund treatment varies. Becca’s says it refunds the authentication fee in rare cases, typically involving brand-new styles, when Entrupy cannot authenticate the item.[1] Luxury Evermore says an inconclusive opinion does not satisfy its refund condition, which requires non-authenticity to be established by the brand or Entrupy.[5]

What to confirm with each provider

The cited pages leave several decision terms unstated:

  • Becca’s Bags: shipping and insurance costs, return-label or box fees, detailed guarantee conditions, resubmission terms and whether the additional report fee is refundable.[1]
  • Love that Bag etc: price, accepted brands and models, submission and evidence requirements, shipping charges, transit liability, cancellation terms and authentication-service refunds.[4]
  • Entrupy directly: Canadian consumer pricing, cancellation terms, complete guarantee terms and Canadian service locations.[2][5]

Becca’s Bags is suited to a Canadian owner with a supported handbag who can surrender or ship it and accept owner-paid, owner-risk transit. It is unsuitable for someone who wants to remain with the bag during examination.[1]

Love that Bag etc is an option for Canadians seeking a certificate or evidence letter, including documentation for a seller or payment dispute. Its price, coverage, submission method and refund terms require confirmation.[4]
